Goals

a valid email address is helpful for notices and account recovery

one approach is to create an account with the student 

email, name, grade ...

the student would receive an email to access his account and set his password

linking the account to social media (Facebook et. al.) would make access and management easier

staff and teacher should be able to maintain accounts of their students

public information (avatar, handle ...) should be maintained by the student - some students will abuse the privilege and can be locked out

Messages

Communication is key to learning.  

Ability to send messages to select individuals.  e.g.  your homework #7 is due, your child's grades are available, take a tour of this feature ...

The messages should be obvious.  Some should be dismissable and some snoozable.

E-Learning LMS

This system will provide Learning Management System functionality.  Things like class roster, grades, class schedule ...

There are many LMSs now: ClassDojo, Moodle, Opigno ...

Existing systems are focused on management and control.  They cater to administrators and ignore teachers, students, and parents.

"I like to share videos to help my students understand.  I bookmark YouTube, Vimeo ...  record time slices (e.g. start 1:58 for 39 seconds).  Fairly time consuming and not easy to share with students."
"The internet at my school sucks.  I am not able to show material especially videos reliably."
"My students want to be able to find germaine videos to view again and I know my allies (colleagues) have found/created great videos but it is not easy to find them."
